About The Skill Gap

The Skill Gap is a blog about the professional skills hiding inside gaming. It explores the connections between in-game mechanics and real-world competencies — leadership, economics, project management, conflict resolution — and makes the case that thousands of hours of gaming produce genuinely transferable, demonstrable skills.

About the Author

I'm Jordan Sosa. I work in compliance and administration at an accounting firm in Australia where my days involve navigating regulatory frameworks, managing client documentation, and keeping complex systems running smoothly.

I'm also a lifelong gamer. I've spent thousands of hours in MMOs, strategy games, and open-world RPGs. And over the years I've noticed something that nobody seems to talk about — the skills I use at work and the skills I developed through gaming are often the same skills. Resource management. Risk assessment. Team coordination. Reading systems and spotting patterns. The language is different but the competencies are identical.

The Skill Gap exists because I got tired of the disconnect. Tired of gamers being dismissed as time-wasters when they're quietly developing skills that industries pay good money for. Tired of professionals not recognising that their best project manager might have learned the job leading a raid team.
